I
am searching for information about the pipes illustrated on this
page. If you recognize these pipes and can provide any information
about them (maker, date, country of origin), or access to probable
identical specimens, I would very much like to hear from you. The
illustrated specimens are assigned numbers (the specimen number
appears above the corresponding specimen photograph(s)) for convenience
in communicating.
The complete
and several essentially complete pipes (1 - 3) are illustrated to
give a feel for overall pipe appearance. They were found at the
same site, and their manufacturing origin is also unknown.
It is my impression
that most if not all of these pipes are of German origin, imported
into the USA. The specimens illustrated are thought to date from
sometime between ca.1830 and 1865 based on occupation of the American
site from which they were excavated.
For the most
part, this site produced only bowl and stem fragments: I am searching
for more complete identical specimens in order to help illustrate
the report on this pipe collection to make the information more
meaningful to future researchers once it is published.
I am interested
in borrowing or purchasing complete bowls (or complete pipes if
available) of the various specimens illustrated here. I am also
very interested in learning the manufacturer’s identity and
time of production. As always, all information contributions of
any type will be cited and generously acknowledged in the resulting
publication.
I am posting
these images on the web site for your convenience so that I do not
clog up your email box with multiple attachments of digital images.
However, I am only providing the link and this inquiry to about
a half dozen people. Thus, as relatively few hand-picked people
are being asked for information, your input is vitally important.
I do apologize for the several images that are blurry; they are
the only shots of these specimens that are currently available.
Thank you very
much for considering my information and specimen request.
Most sincerely,
Byron
